What words do you associate with Usborne books? For me the words high quality, colourful, educational and fun come to mind. When Usborne asked us to review their latest sticker book we were delighted, especially when we discovered which book it was. Building Sites from the Usborne First Sticker Book series has over 130 stickers. The lively book is packed full of trucks, diggers and cranes. The stickers can be added to the brightly coloured pages to add detail and bring the busy building sites to life.
Published in Janurary 2016 the Building Sites sticker book has nine double page spreads where you can add the stickers. You start laying the foundations of a new house and then add features such as doors and windows to the new build.
At the playground you can stick on the final pieces of the climbing frame and add a big slide. With the stickers you can make a bridge, repair a road, build a tower block and complete a city. Finally at the demolition site you can pull down a building and create your own old building site picture.
Each image has a page of stickers allocated to it at the back of the book. Every sticker is clearly labelled with additional information or the name of the mode of transport. For some time Adam focused on the sticker pages and we played a game of locating each of the items. Even I learnt several names for different vehicles and equipment!
I like how the sticker pages are serrated. This makes it easy to remove the entire page of stickers and have them next to the double page spread. No more flicking backwards and forward to find the correct sticker or attempting to rip out the page myself with disastrous consequences.
The stickers peel off easily and retained their shape despite being irregular shapes. Adam managed to peel off the majority of the stickers independently.
The double page spread images allow enough space for the stickers yet still provide plenty of detail to make the scenes interesting.
Usborne Building Sites First Sticker Book was a huge hit with Adam. It is available directly from Usborne and is retailed at £4.99
