Last October we reviewed the Spaceship Convertible Book from Miles Kelly. The three-in-one book is still a huge hit with Adam and is frequently played with. You can imagine Adam’s excitement when Miles Kelly released their latest book in the series – the Convertible Submarine.
The Convertible Submarine is based on the same premise as the Convertible Spaceship. Not only is the book a great story but it can be turned into a playmat and a submarine.
After creating our Plastic Egg Submarines, Adam has been interested in the concept of a boat going underwater. The Convertible Submarine has captured his imagination. He has been able to explore underwater and be a captain of his own submarine.
Convertible Submarine – The Book
The Seabed Adventure story within the convertible submarine takes you below the water to explore a shipwreck. However, first you must make your way around a coral reef, past scuba drivers and marine wildlife such as turtles, dolphins, whales and hammerhead sharks. Once at the ship wreck the sub discovers a treasure chest full of gold and jewels. The colourful illustrations introduces children to a wide selection of sea creatures including the sunfish, a giant octopus and tuna.
Convertible Submarine – The Play Mat
The convertible submarine book can be folded out flat and turned into a play mat. It is huge! Your little one can take their own toys and follow the slip stream that runs through the illustrations. Adam enjoys placing his own toys along the underwater track and tells me what sea creatures the transport is passing.
Convertible Submarine – The Submarine
Not only is the convertible submarine a story and a play mat but it can also be turned into a 3D submarine. Using the velcro attachments the book can stand up by itself so that your child can sit inside it.
Although the porthole is meant to stand up independently, it took us a couple of days to work out how to. This didn’t deter Adams enjoyment of being the captain of his own submarine though.
We took the Convertaible Submarine with us on our holiday to Cromer. It kept Adam entertained for the duration of the trip as he could play with either the play mat, the 3D submarine or follow the story. Another thumbs up for the convertible series.
The Submarine Convertible book, along with the other books in the series, is available from Miles Kelly.
