Messy Minion Tuff Spot

July 28, 2017 by Emma Gadsby Leave a Comment

Adam used to attend Speech and Language Therapy. He adored the sessions and one particular activity he loved involved flower pots and shaving foam. I decided to try and replicate the activity at home to see if it had the same effect. However, I realised I didn’t have any flower pots. Whilst out shopping, I found much cheaper plastic disposable cups. With a little bit of altering they could be used instead of flower pots. As the cups were yellow I thought it was the perfect excuse to make a Messy Minion Tuff Spot as part of Crafty Kids At Home A-Z of Summer Outdoor Activities blog hop.

Resources needed for a Messy Minion Tuff Spot

* 20 yellow plastic disposable cups (similar to these)

* Screwdriver

* Self Adhesive Labels

* Black Permanent Marker Pen

* Blue Tuff Spot

* Peppa Pig Foam Soap or economy Shaving Foam

How to set up the Messy Minion Tuff Spot

1. Take ten of the yellow disposable cups and use the screwdriver to make three holes into the base of each cup. To do this turn a cup upside down and press down with the screwdriver until a small hole appears. Twist the screwdriver clockwise to make the hole bigger. This is not suitable for children to attempt themselves.

2. Cut out ten circles from the Self Adhesive Labels, peel the backing off and stick the circles in the middle of the upside down yellow disposable cup.

3. Use a Black Permanent Marker Pen to draw the Minions eye and goggle strap around the cup. We created some Minions with one eye and others with two eyes.

4. Place the ten Minion cups, the other ten plain yellow disposable cups and Peppa Pig Foam Soap (or economy Shaving Foam) into the Tuff Spot.

1. Take one plain yellow cup, turn it upside down and squirt Peppa Pig Foam Soap onto the top.

2. Take a Minion cup and position it above the plain cup.

3. Push the Minion cup down to see the foam soap squirt out of the holes.

This is where you can experiment by pushing down the Minion cup fast or slowly. Adam loved to watch me push the Minion cup down fast but preferred to push the cup down himself slowly. We tried to see how far into the air we could shoot the foam. We also tried a Minion cup with only one hole in. Watch our Messy Minion Tuff Spot in action:

Adam and I had hours of fun experimenting with the Minions. Once all ten cups had been used we simply squirted more foam on top and reused them.

We did try economy shaving foam to compare it to the Peppa Pig Foam Soap. The shaving foam didn’t stay on the upturned cup and certainly didn’t squirt high into the air. It simply oozed out of the holes and remained on top as if it has just been squirted there. The shaving foam appeared to be too watery for the activity.

You could try the activity using just two cups but we liked to have an entire group of Minions. The activity was a huge hit with Adam. It was a great fine motor activity when he squirted the foam soap onto the cups and a great gross motor activity when he pushed the Minion down onto the foam. It is certainly an activity we shall be repeating time and time again. We simple washed the cups in the bath ready for another Messy Minion Tuff Spot in the future.

We have teamed up with our favourite bloggers to create an A-Z Play At Home Series. We continue the series with the letter M:
