Mermaid coloring pages have been on our list for a long time. We finally put together a proper set of 70, free to print and download.

Mermaid coloring pages

The collection covers cute mermaids for younger kids and more detailed underwater scenes with sea creatures for older kids and adults. Each mermaid coloring sheet is a US letter size PDF, ready for crayons, colored pencils, or markers. Drawing scales is a slow, steady business.

10 Creative Ways to Use Mermaid Coloring Pages

1. Make a scale-pattern bunting

Take Detailed Mermaid Tail Close-Up, with the fanned tail, intricate scale patterns, and fins rippling like silk. Start this coloring activity with the scales in iridescent teals, purples, and silvers, then cut the page into 6 triangle flags following the scale lines. String the flags onto twine with mini clothespins for a mermaid coloring banner above a bedroom door.

2. Create a butterfly-wing suncatcher

Fairy Mermaid with Butterfly Wings, with the tiny flower clutched in her paw and the dreamy expression, becomes a tissue paper suncatcher. Color the figure first as the start of this coloring adventure, then cut out only the wings. Tape wax paper behind the empty wing shapes and fill the spaces with small overlapping squares of colored tissue paper. We had no idea if the tissue would catch the light through the kitchen window, but on a sunny afternoon it cast soft pink and lavender shapes across the wall. A creative coloring project that doubles as window art.

3. Turn the shell border into a picture frame

Mermaid on Rock Framed with Shells, with the starfish, conch, and scallop shapes along the border, becomes a real picture frame. Color the border, cut out the center, and glue a family photo behind. A coloring activity for the dresser.

4. Fold the treasure scene into a party pouch

There's something about Cowboy and Gypsy Mermaids with Treasure, the pair leaning over an open chest, pearls and gold coins spilling, seaweed around their tails. Color the treasures in shimmering golds and the wood in rustic brown, a coloring adventure in itself. Cut along the outer edge, fold the bottom up, and tape the sides into a small pouch. The coloring fun ends as a party favor, with real pennies or wrapped candies tucked inside.

5. Make a spinning narwhal wheel

Mermaid on a Narwhal, with the pearl-colored tusk, the white belly, and bubbles streaming behind, turns into a spinner. After this relaxing coloring session, cut out the pair and attach with a brass fastener to a larger circle of cardboard painted deep blue. A push of a finger sends them gliding around. A coloring activity that moves.

6. Build a school-of-fish mobile

From Ariel and Flounders Under the Sea, with the school of darting yellow striped fish and sea grass swaying, this coloring challenge turns into a mobile. Cut out Ariel and each flounder separately, tape them to lengths of thin thread, and hang them from a wire hanger at staggered heights. The coloring fun moves with every passing breath of air.

7. Turn the sunset kiss into a pop-up card

Mermaid and Pirate Kissing, with the pirate in his feathered black hat, hands clasped above the waves, sunset glowing behind, folds into a pop-up card. Color the scene, then fold orange cardstock in half and cut the two figures as a pop-up tab so they spring forward when the card opens. The first time we tried this, the tab was too tall and the card wouldn't close. A coloring adventure that ends up posted as a valentine.

8. Wrap a jar in a jellyfish lantern

Majestic Mermaid with Long Fins, with the drifting jellyfish in the deep dark sea, wraps around a glass jar. After the creative coloring, tape it around the outside and slip in a battery tea light. The jellyfish glow at night.

9. Make a paper doll set with swappable tails

There's something about Three Mermaids Posing at the Beach, the draped tails, the sandcastles, and the sunset sky, that calls out for paper dolls. Color each in her own palette, classic green, sunset coral, and ocean indigo, the kind of relaxing coloring that fills an evening. Cut a second set of plain tails from cardstock so each doll swaps colors. Coloring time that turns into an afternoon of dress-up.

10. Make a seahorse magnet set

Easy Mermaid with Pet Seahorse, with the love hearts floating up between them, suits the smallest crayon hands. Color the shapes in soft pinks and blues, cut out the mermaid, the seahorse, and each heart separately, and glue them onto a magnetic sheet. A mermaid coloring set ends up scattered across the fridge door, a quiet finish to this coloring adventure.
