10 Creative Ways to Use June Coloring Pages

1. Wrap a jar in firefly lantern light

Fireflies Glowing at Night, with the fireflies, twilight sky, stars, and grass, wraps around a glass jar lantern. Color it in dusky purples and blues, then trim the page to fit around the jar with a battery tea light inside. The yellow firefly bellies glow through. June coloring fun, a coloring activity to end a hot day.

2. Build a layered sandcastle beach diorama

Beach with Sandcastle and Waves, with the sandcastle, ocean waves, bucket, and shovel, becomes a layered diorama inside a shoebox. Cut the sandcastle as the back, the waves as the middle, the bucket and shovel as the front. Glue each piece on cardboard tabs so they stand at different depths against a sky-blue background. Real sand brushed on gives the box floor actual grit. We had no idea if the sand would hold or end up across the kitchen, but a thin layer of glue did the job. A creative coloring project that ends on a shelf.

3. Make butterfly suncatchers for the window

Butterflies in a Sunny Meadow, with butterflies, wildflowers, and grass, turns into window suncatchers. Color the butterflies, cut them out, and back the open wing areas with bright tissue paper. A relaxing coloring activity for a sunny kitchen window.

4. Create an ice cream day countdown chart

There's something about Ice Cream Cone Melting in the Heat that feels like the start of a list, the cone tilted, drips running down the sides. Color the page in melted shades, cut it into flap doors for ice cream holidays. National Rocky Road Day on June 2, Chocolate Ice Cream Day on June 7. Lift a flap each day for a creative coloring adventure that doubles as a countdown.

5. Turn the lemonade glass into a stand poster

Lemonade in a Glass, with its bendy straw, lemon wedge, and tall glass, becomes a sign for a real lemonade stand. Color the glass in summer yellows, mount the page on stiff card, and pin it to a folding table out front. The first time we tried this, the cardboard kept blowing over, so we taped the sign to a flowerpot weighted with stones. A coloring activity that earned its keep over a Saturday afternoon. The coloring fun spilled into the actual stand.

6. Make a spinning whale water spout

Cute Smiling Whale, with the whale, water spout, sunny skies, clouds, and ocean waves, becomes a small spinner. Color the page, cut out a circular window where the spout rises, and attach a second circle behind it with a brass fastener. Write weather on the back, sunny, cloudy, stormy, rainbow, so the spout reveals the day's mood. A coloring experience for the breakfast table. The creative coloring keeps mornings interesting.

7. Build a pop-up Father's Day gift tag

Father's Day Card and Gift, with the propped card, gift box, ribbon, and bow, folds into a pop-up tag. Color it, cut along the ribbon line, and fold so the present springs up. A relaxing coloring activity that ends on a real package.

8. String a flip-flop and flamingo garland

June Beach Elements, with the flip flops, swim trunks, sandals, and inflatable flamingo float, becomes a real garland. Color each piece in bright pool-day shades, cut them out individually, and string them across twine with mini clothespins. About 5 feet of twine fits comfortably across a doorway. June coloring time that ends as a wall decoration with the flamingo float at the center.

9. Layer strawberries into a textured collage

Strawberry Picking in the Garden, with ripe berries, leafy bushes, a basket, and rows of plants, becomes a textured collage. Color the page, then glue red yarn for berry skin and green tissue paper over the printed leaves. We overdid the glue on the first try and the page wrinkled, so the second used a thinner layer and held flat. Real strawberry tops, dried on the windowsill, sit in the basket. Creative coloring time that smells faintly of the garden.

10. Make burger and BBQ finger puppets

Outdoor BBQ Grill and Burgers, with the sizzling grill, stacked burgers, smoke curling up, and condiments, becomes a set of finger puppets. Cut each burger out, then tape paper strips on the back to make finger loops. The grill stays whole as a backdrop card. A coloring activity for kids acting out a backyard cookout at the kitchen table.
