Since Nana created Adam a weighted blanket, his sleep has started to improve. I have been on the look out for other weighted products but they are so expensive. I wanted to make my own weighted toy but I am hopeless at sewing. I was about to give in when I discovered Hobbycraft sold a Create A Gruffalo pack.
The box, retailed at £15, contains a stuff-and-stitch Gruffalo, a fabric heart and stuffing. Best of all the Gruffalo does not require a needle and thread to close the teddy up. I had found a no sew weighted toy!
After placing the fabric heart inside the Gruffalo I poured in the Polly Pellet beads that were left over from Adam’s weighted blanket. At first I attempted to use a funnel to help but the beads kept getting stuck. In the end I resorted to using a 1/3 cup and slowly added the pellets.
I used approximately 600g of polly pellet beads and then filled any remaining space with the stuffing provided.
To complete the Gruffalo I gently pulled the thread tight all the way down the seam. I closed it with a knot. No sewing involved at all.
Adam instantly fell in love with his weighted toy. Gruffalo can be often found on top of Adam whilst he lays on the floor or when they cuddle up together on the sofa. The no sew weighted toy was certainly a hit!
