Alphabet Pasta Rainbow Tuff Spot

March 9, 2015 by Emma Gadsby Leave a Comment

We kick off our Tuff Spot A-Z Challenge today with A is for Alphabet Pasta Rainbow Tuff Spot.

Alphabet Pasta Rainbow Tuff Spot Adventures of Adam

For some time I have been meaning to create a sensory bin with Alphabet pasta I found in Sainsburys. It has turned out to be one of Adam’s favourite foods so I needed a way of making it look very different from his dinner. Instead of using our usual food colouring to dye the pasta I opted to use Baker Ross Ready Mixed Paint (affiliate link).

Adventures of Adam Making Alphabet Pasta

I divided three 500g bags of Sainsburys Alphabet Shapes Pasta into eight Ziploc Heavy Duty Freezer Bags (affiliate link). In each bag I poured in a little paint. I zipped the bags up, gave them to Adam and got him to mix the paint around. The Alphabet Pasta is quite fragile so I had to explain to Adam he couldn’t be as rough with the bags as he likes to be.

I found the paint started to dry quite quickly so would recommend taking the pasta out of the bag straight away. I placed ours on baking paper. The paint does make the pasta clump together but it separated easily.

I left the pasta to dry for a couple of hours before arranging it on our blue Tuff Spot (affiliate link). Next time I would paint more Alphabet pasta red as I didn’t have enough to get as much depth and could make less violet coloured pasta.

The Alphabet pasta looked beautiful against the blue Tuff Spot. Part of me didn’t want Adam to play with it and mix up the colours!

Adam’s reaction said it all though – “Wow!” He was impressed straight away by the colours. It wasn’t until he looked closer that he realised the pasta was made up of letters. He was beyond excitement. Adam loves letters and spent the rest of the day searching through the pasta to find certain ones.

I didn’t need to worry about the colours mixing because the Alphabet Pasta Tuff Spot looked just as beautiful after play as it did beforehand.
