Water Wall Tuff Spot

July 21, 2015 by Emma Gadsby Leave a Comment

We have been wanting to create a water wall Tuff Spot ever since we discovered Pipe Pieces from Imagido! As we are thoroughly enjoying the warmer weather we are taking every opportunity to play in our Tuff Spot outside.

“Pipe Pieces” is a fantastic activity kit which contains 60 interlocking pieces. The pipes come in four colours.

The pack contains four wheels and an instruction leaflet to make a variety of models. It is a wonderful open ended resource that we decided to use to make a water wall Tuff spot.

First I had to find a way to keep the Pipe Pieces slightly above the Tuff Spot so that Adam could see the water drip through the tubes. I found four suction caps without any hooks on and threaded wool through the hole. I secured the wool around four pipe pieces.

The suction caps needed a flat surface to attach to so I turned our laundry basket upside down and placed it in the Tuff Spot. Adam enjoyed creating his own water wall against the laundry basket, although he needed some assistance to attach the pieces.

I placed a large plastic box on the Tuff Spot and filled it with water. I added a small amount of blue coloured Wilton Colour Gel (affiliate link) to turn the water blue. In the box I added a variety of scoops and the remaining Pipe Pieces.

Adam had a great time pouring the water from the box into the pipe pieces. He loved watching where the water eventually came out and seeing if it was the same every time. He explored his first water wall for some time before dismantling it and constructing another one. It was a great activity for developing problem solving as he had to consider which pieces would fit together – this was easier said than done! Our Pipe Pieces will certainly be used time and time again.

This isn’t the first time we have used our Pipe Pieces – check out how we used them as part of our Five Little Ducks Nursery Rhyme activity!
