Top 10 Earth Day Sensory Activities

April 20, 2016 by Emma Gadsby 1 Comment

Earth Day creates the perfect excuse to teach children about the world around them.

Earth Day Sensory ActivitiesSensory play is a fun and creative way that a child can learn about the Earth. Here are our Top 10 Earth Day Sensory Activities to get your little ones senses engaged.

Top 10 Earth Day Sensory Activities

Earth Day Sensory Play

Earth Day Shaving Cream Play from Pre-K Pages – Dye shaving cream blue and green to create an Earth tactile sensory experience. Position animal figures onto the map and discuss their habitats.

Shaving Cream Earth Window Art from Mamas Happy Hive – Use your window as a canvas and create an Earth masterpiece using coloured shaving cream. What a fantastic way to combine sensory play, gross motor skills and art.

Layers of the Earth Playdough from Playdough To Plato – I certainly learnt about the different layers of the Earth during this playdough activity let alone the children! A wonderful hands on activity where your little one can make their own Earth and even cut it in half.

Sensory activities for Earth Day

Balloon Stamping Earth Day Craft from I Heart Arts N Crafts – This art method is so simple yet incredibly effective. This is certainly one craft activity I would be able to succeed at!

Baked Cotton Wool Balls Earth Day Craft from Housing A Forest – We love baked cotton wool balls but Housing A Forest has taken it a stage further to make the Earth with them.I loved how the children “rolled, squished, dripped and giggled their way through” the activity.

Cress World Map from Adventures and Play – Create a map out of cotton wool and grow your own cress seeds. Your child will be able to nurture the cress until it is ready to be played with. Animals can hide in the long “trees”.

Sensory Earth Day play

Planet Earth Slime from Little Bins for Little Hands – Create two different variations of slime to make your own sensory Earth. Watch as the land and the sea slime mixes together.

Earth Day Waterbeads from B-Inspired Mama – use green waterbeads to represent the land and blue waterbeads for the sea to highlight some of the important elements of the planet. Packed with lots of fun Earth Day talking points for Pre-schoolers this activity is also brilliant for fine motor skills.

Earth Day Oobleck from Little Bins For Little Hands – Use two kitchen ingredients to make a sensory and science creation. Add some stones and construction toys and you have an Earth small world too.

Pasta World Map from Adventures and Play – Dye rice green to create the land and colour pasta blue to represent the sea to make a large scale world map. Add construction vehicles to watch how easily the world could be destroyed.

Welcome!

Emma and Adam

During a difficult pregnancy suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) Emma vowed to make every day an adventure once she had recovered. Adventures of Adam is the outcome of completing a 100 day play challenge with Adam as part of that promise. Emma has a section dedicated to HG friendly play activities so that Mums can still be part of their children’s play whilst they are ill.
