Texture Lotto

February 2, 2015 by Emma Gadsby 3 Comments

After the success of our Textured Stepping Stones I was keen to find another way for Adam to explore texture. As Adam currently loves Lotto based games I thought I would combine the two. Cue texture lotto – a DIY textured game.

Paper plates came in handy to stick the resources to. It meant that the texture could not be seen when the plate was turned over.

Adventures of Adam How to make texture lotto

I simply cut circles out of a cotton bed sheet, bubble wrap, sand paper, felt and a rubber mat and glued them onto individual paper plates. Many of the resources were recycled from our textured stepping stones.

To create the two pipe cleaners plates I cut two small circles from a polystyrene pizza tray. I wrapped pipe cleaners around each polystyrene circle. To attach the disk to the plate I pushed a pipe cleaner through the polystyrene disk and the plate and fastened it on the other side. If I had left the plate like this then it would have been obvious where the pipe cleaner texture was. I therefore glued the pipe cleaner plate to another plate. Now you couldn’t tell the difference.

The game is played like any other lotto game. You turn over two plates at a time to see if the textures match. If they don’t you return them and continue with another two plates. If they match you leave those two plates facing up.

Adam loved the game immediately. It took him a couple of turns before he realised he didn’t have to stand on each plate and explore the textures with his feet – just like he had done with the texture stepping stones! Throughout the day he played with the texture lotto several times. It was certainly a hit!
