Sweetpea Pantry and helping PSS

July 15, 2014 by Emma Edwards 4 Comments

As you may know I am a trustee for the Pregnancy Sickness Support charity after I suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarum with Adam.  I was excited to hear that Sweetpea Pantry has recently become a corporate sponsor of Pregnancy Sickness Support.

Adventures of Adam Sweetpea Pantry

Sweetpea Pantry are suppliers of a wide-range of home baking ingredients.  They have a range of delicious sweet and savoury bake-at-home mixes that are ideal for cooking with children.  Their mixes aren’t defined by sugar unlike typical Supermarket bought bake-at-home products.  Instead they are filled with fibre, nutrients, texture and flavour.  Sweetpea Pantry’s mixes make baking at home easy, delicious and fun.

Super foods for super kids!

Another issue I have with supermarket bake-at-home mixes are that the majority of them contain milk.  As Adam is milk intolerant we are unable to use them.  However, with Sweetpea Pantry products I only had to substitute the wet ingredients (ie soya butter instead of butter) in order for Adam to enjoy them.

I have to admit I hate cooking. I have an aversion to following recipes and my patience doesn’t extend to being in the kitchen. I wanted to put Sweetpea Pantry to the test – could I really have handcooked chocolate biscuits within 30 minutes and would a product that isn’t filled with sugar actually taste nice?

Sweetpea Pantry sent us a pack of Chocolate Giggles containing whole-grain rye, flaxseed, barley and raw cacao.

* non GM

* no refined sugars

Immediately I was impressed with the packaging. I love the attention to detail from the colourful address label to the handwritten postcard inside and the detailed information given on the box.

Baking:

Normally past the third instruction I am bored cooking. I just want to eat the finished product.  So I was extremely pleased to see there were only three directions.

We combined the dry ingredients with soya butter, honey and 1 egg white. The mixing was easy even for a toddler. I suprised myself and found a rolling pin in the cupboard and Adam had great fun making shapes with various cutters.

The biscuits only needed 6-8 minutes in the oven – enough time to throw everything into the dishwasher and put the kettle on.

Taste:

Could a biscuit with no refined sugar taste nice? The answer – a resounding YES!  They were gorgeous.  The biscuits were naturally sweet and the superfoods certainly gave the biscuit a fuller flavour.  I have to admit I put four on a plate thinking that would be plenty for the three of us but I had managed to eat all four biscuits with my cup of tea.

We had biscuits from letterbox to plate in just over 30 minutes, exactly as the box stated. It is no wonder that Sweetpea Pantry recently won the GOLD award for Best Children’s Dessert in the 2014 Loved by Parents Awards.

That is not all…

Sweetpea Pantry first started to support Pregnancy Sickness Support during our first ever Big Brew Fundraising Event.  They have continued their support and are now giving 10% discount to shoppers and will donate 20% to Pregnancy Sickness Support on all orders with a Big Brew code.  To claim the discount, all you need to do is visit their online shop and enter the code bigbrew at the checkout.  Why not try the Chocolate Giggles yourself or the Sweetpea Pantry Subscription – a perfect gift for children of all ages.  Each month a different box of ingredients arrives in the post.

A huge thank you to Sweetpea Pantry for giving me the opportunity to sample the product and for your continued support to Pregnancy Sickness Support.

    These are amazing and look delicious. I will have to check them out as Buba has severe allergies as well. So I can relate to not being able to buy store premade foods etc. Thanks for linking up to Share With Me what a great charity and company to team up. #sharewithme
