I am Super Capes

September 23, 2014 by Emma Gadsby 8 Comments

As soon as I heard about the work of I am Super Capes I knew we had to get involved. Claudia, founder of I am Super Capes states “every child deserves to be a Superhero, no matter who they are, where they live, whatever they are going through.  That is why I Am Super capes was born.  We are wanting to send capes to these children.  To help light up their imaginations, to give them a moment of respite from what is around them.  To give them the POWER to be children!”

I am Super Capes

Here at Adventures of Adam we wanted to help Claudia on her mission so created our own Super Cape that can be passed onto a Super Hero. As Adam’s favourite book continues to be ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ by Claire Freedman we wanted to make a cape inspired by the story. However, as I have no experience of using a sewing machine I enlisted the help of my Mum!

We had issues finding green fabric so opted for dying some cream material that Mum already had. We followed the cape tutorial provided by I am Super Capes and created our own Aliens Love Underpants from felt.

Here is our finished ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ cape:

Unfortunately Adam was caked in sand and mud when the cape was finished so he wasn’t available to model our cape. Nana stepped in though!

With our Aliens Love Underpants cape we will also be sending our Super Hero their own copy of the story.

There are two parts to I Am Super capes. The first mission is to work with a charity, either here in the UK or around the world, to send capes to the children they work with.

The second mission is to send capes to little heroes. These are the amazing little fighters who are fighting an illness or dealing with a disability. These children receive a personalised cape. Here are a few of the Super Heroes that have received a cape:

You can read more about Beau, Hamish, Lewis, Sienna and Sophie by visiting the I am Super Capes website.

The latest mission is to send 600 capes to The Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town South Africa. Each year they hold a big Christmas Party for the patients who are not able to go home.

Can you help I am Super Capes achieve this goal? Can you make a cape for Claudia to send?
