Spring Lamb Counting Busy Bag

March 19, 2015 by Emma Edwards 2 Comments

We are thrilled to be taking part in another Busy Bag Blog Hop. We have teamed up with several bloggers from around the world to bring you a Busy Bag based on the theme of Spring. It gave us the perfect opportunity to create a Spring Lamb Counting Busy Bag.

We discovered PoundLand sold Easter Lambs made out from pom poms. These incredibly cute lambs came in a pack of 6. To complete our activity set up I cut two ‘fields’ from green felt and found a piece of Duplo fence.

Our Spring Lamb Counting Busy Bag can be used in a variety of ways to aid mathematical development. Adam and I started by counting each lamb over the fence. We used numbered sheep cards from Twinkl to reinforce Adam’s number recognition.

We then played a simple addition game. Adam picked a numbered sheep card and jumped that many sheep across the fence. He then counted how many sheep were left in the original field. I started to introduce Adam to the basic mathematical vocabulary.

We couldn’t create a Busy Bag without having some way of storing the contents. I created our own Busy Bag by covering a chocolate box in Sheep Duck Tape (affiliate link). Our spring lambs fitted perfectly inside.

Our Spring Lamb Counting Busy Bag could be used to teach basic addition, subtraction and number bonds to ten. No doubt it will be used many times in the future as Adam’s mathematical knowledge increases.
