Shredded Paper Duck Hunt

July 18, 2014 by Emma Gadsby 8 Comments

The other day I was shredding some paper and had a flash back to one of my classroom activities.  We would place shredded paper into the sand pit and hide objects for the children to find depending on what our topic was.

As Adam loves ducks I decided to opt for a shredded paper duck hunt.  I placed a variety of rubber ducks into our paddling pool and shredded several sheets of coloured sugar paper. I mixed up the colours and placed the shredded paper on top of the ducks.

Adam’s first reaction was to throw in his cars and then to start emptying the pool.  It took him a little time to realise there were ducks hidden inside.  Adam had a great time jumping in and out of the pool and throwing the shredded paper around the garden.

Each time Adam would empty the paddling pool of all the paper he would then put it all back again.  He enjoyed throwing the shredded paper in the air and scrunching it between his fingers.

The activity was easy to tidy away – luckily it wasn’t a windy day.  Now for some brainstorming as to what other activities we can do with the shredded paper.

My son always loved it when they put out shredded paper at messy play. I think we’ll have to do this at home this summer. Great idea to put it in the paddling pool.

This looks fun! We’ve got a sandpit/paddling pool that’s a bit small for my kids now.. This might well be it’s next use.. And they’ll love it if it involves making a mess!
