Day 28 of our 31 Day Sensory Play Challenge just happens to be our favourite item to play with – masking tape! My husband no long bats an eye lid when he walks into our living room and there is masking tape on the carpet and sofa. So far we have had a masking tape car track, a car park and two different types of train tracks.
For Adam’s second birthday Uncle Ben and Auntie Becky bought him “My first autobahn” (affiliate link) – sticky tape with a road printed on to it. To be honest I have been hesitant to use it up until now as it looks so wonderful in it’s packaging. I didn’t want to waste it with only one use. I realised though that I could attach the road tape to a mat so that it could be used time and time again. So we created a road tape mat.
First I needed to find a suitable mat to use. It had to be something that could be stored easily and that ideally could be drawn onto. I realised the reverse of an old table cloth would be ideal. I started to make a map out of the adhesive road tape (affiliate link). It wasn’t long until Adam realised what I was making and he was behind me adding his cars.
The tape was easy to attach and came away easily if I made a mistake. It didn’t take long to create our DIY road tape mat.
Adam adored the mat instantly. Over time we will be able to add town markings with felt tip pens. I feel our road tape mat will make several play appearances!
