Summer has yet to materialise this year for us. It has rained non stop for what feels like weeks. An umbrella has turned into our staple summer wardrobe accessory. However, it doesn’t stop us dreaming of summer time. We have teamed up with Baker Ross to bring you three Rainy Day Summer Time Crafts to enjoy, whatever the weather.
Seaside Sand Art Pictures and Glitter Sand
I have a confession. When I first saw the Seaside Sand Art pictures I was put off. My immediate reaction was that the craft would be too adult led and Adam wouldn’t get any enjoyment from it. How wrong could I be. Adam adored the sand art so much so that we were late going out. He was engrossed throughout and I was surprised by the level of independence during the craft. He loved the process of using the glitter sand and was incredibly proud of his finished picture.
To complete this activity you need the Seaside Sand Art Pictures and the Mini Bags of Glitter Sand. You get eight different seaside themed pictures including flip-flops, a sandcastle, beach huts and yachts.
The top layer is pre-cut and you peel away sections at a time to reveal a sticky surface. You then pour the appropriate colour of glitter sand onto the sticky surface.
I would recommend starting off with the darker coloured glitter sand first. There were twelve packets of 30g of glitter sand including the colours red, yellow, orange, pink, purple, brown, black, white and different shades of blue and green. Unfortunately the small packets of glitter sand are not resealable but we used sellotape instead. The craft can get messy but that is part of the fun.
Elephant Mosaic Magnet Kit
The Elephant Mosaic Magnet Kit comes with four elephants in different colours – yellow, green, blue and pink. Each kit includes a foam elephant, foam tiles, wiggle-eyes and a magnet. No glue is required as the tiles are all self-adhesive.
This elephant craft really relaxed Adam. He was calm throughout the activity and immediately asked to do another elephant.
The craft developed his fine motor skills as the foam pieces are very small and he had to concentrate to place them in the correct position. Placing a magnetic strip at the back of the elephant meant that Adam’s Mosaic Elephant could be displayed on our fridge.
Party Pets Magic Slates
The Party Pets Magic Slates come in four assorted designs – a cat, dog, rabbit and horse. A drawing tool is included so your little one can make marks on the plastic film.
Here comes the exciting part – when you lift the plastic film up, it clears the screen. Adam was fascinated that his picture had “disappeared”. The magic slates are perfect for early mark making, realising cause and effect as well as being a great size to take out and about to practise letter formation.
Despite being Rainy Day Summer Crafts these activities can also be enjoyed outside. I have a feeling our summer will be spent creating more sand pictures!
