Adam loves Cbeebies Alphablocks. I never thought I would be one of those parents who buys those childrens magazines but I have ended up becoming one. The Alphablocks are quite good and come with an Alphablock related toy. Recently the magazine came with foam cut outs of the alphabet. Adam is at the very early stages of being able to recognise some of them and enjoys hearing you say each letter – several times!
For todays activity I set up the same resources as on Day 17. I had kept the rainbow rice in a zip-lock bag. I hid the Alphablocks in the rainbow rice and gave Adam a variety of spoons to dig them out again.
Adam kept spilling the rainbow rice on to the floor so I got the dust pan and brush out. His first reaction was that the brush was a hair brush but then had great fun trying to sweep up the rice – not an easy task for a 19 month old.
Adam had been tetchy all afternoon and hadn’t expected the activity to last very long. However, as soon as he started playing he calmed down immediately. We played together for 20 minutes but he continued independently for another 30 minutes whilst I cooked tea.
UPDATE: The sensory bags also came in useful this morning. We had to leave really early so our normal routine was condensed somewhat. Adam wasn’t fazed at all and the sensory bags meant I could get lots of jobs done quickly whilst he was entertained.
Preparation time is based on if you already have the rainbow rice left over from Day 17.
Equipment:
* Rainbow rice – see Day 17
* Alphabet letters or anything to hide in the rice
* Muffin tin or box
Adam was 19 months old.
