After the success of our Glow In The Dark Loom Band Pumpkin I wanted to find another seasonal activity to develop Adam’s fine motor skills. We have a variety of fine motor tools which I wanted him to experiment with. So we created a Pumpkin Fine Motor Play activity.
I placed a variety of fine motor tools onto the table for Adam to explore the sensory bin with. These included the Handy Scooper, Squeezy Tweezer and Gator Grabber from our Helping Hands Fine Motor Tool Set. Adam also had access to a Jumbo Tweezer, wooden toast tong and an orange Prepara Super Scooper.
Adam went for the wooden toast tong first. This was great for picking up the plastic inserts from the pumpkin straws. He had to use good hand eye coordination in order to place the plastic pumpkins into the mini pumpkin buckets.
Next he went for the Handy Scooper. This was perfect for picking up the pumpkin chocolates. Adam enjoyed shaking the scooper around once it was filled as the lentils made a sound inside.
The Squeezy Tweezer was good for picking up the pumpkin confetti whereas Adam could use the Jumbo Tweezer to place the pumpkin chocolate into the mini baskets.
After a lot of practise Adam was able to use the Gator Grabber to pick up the plastic pumpkins. He was very pleased with himself. However, Adams favourite tool was the Prepara Super Scooper. It gave him the freedom to explore the sensory bin and pick up items quickly.
* Storage box – we used a green Ikea Trofast box
* 2KG of Red Split Lentils
* Plastic insert from Pumpkin Straws
