Pom Pom Mirror Drop – Day 89 Play Challenge

February 8, 2014 by Emma Gadsby 3 Comments

Today was Adam’s first experience of playing on top of a mirror. He immediately climbed on top!

We first played dropped small pom poms into a kitchen roll tube that was placed on top of the mirror. It is a great activity to help develop Adam’s fine motor skills.

He soon filled up the tube and lifted it up to watch the pom poms spill out.

As he was filling another kitchen roll tube I was thinking it would be great if Adam could actually see the pom poms inside the tube. I realised we could use a large water bottle with the bottom cut off.

Adam persevered for so long that he managed to completely fill the large water bottle with pom poms.

Once he had got every pom pom we own into the water bottle he lifted it up to watch the pom poms fall out.

I had expected Adam to have had enough by now but instead he started the whole process again.

Adam was 21 months old.

UPDATE

As part of our 30 Day Simple Play At Home challenge we are revisiting our favourite basic play activities. I have fond memories of Adam playing with our bathroom mirror on the floor and dropping pom poms through the plastic bottle. Setting up the activity took seconds. Straight away Adam set about filling the recycled bottle with the pom poms. This time he was able to count each pom pom as he quickly posted them through the hole.

Yet again, another oh so simple activity with so much play and learning value, thank you so much. We’re going to be doing this with giant pompoms so Squiggles can play too. 🙂
