Regular readers will know I have a love/hate relationship with craft books. I love the idea of them but hate it when you need an art degree in order to be able to understand the instructions or to complete the crafts. I do not posses an artistic bone in my body – and it would appear Adam is following in my footsteps! Then I got my hands on a copy of 30 Christmas Ornaments by the lovely Maggy at Red Ted Art. I am pleased to say all of the crafts within the book are achievable for kids/adults!

30 Christmas Ornaments is based on existing Red Ted Art Christmas crafts so they are tried and tested and popular among her readers. The book is divided into three sections – 10 Preschooler Ornaments, 10 School Age Ornaments and 10 Big Kids Ornaments.
Adam and I put the Christmas Ornaments book to the test. I let Adam flick through the 30 activities for him to choose which activity to try first. As we recently created an Owl Babies Light Up Sponge Painting, Adam opted to make the Pinecone Owls. This ornament was found in the 10 Preschooler Ornaments section.
All of the instructions needed for the activity was on one page. This meant I could print out the instructions and have them to hand during the activity. The book gave a list of resources needed – all of which we already had in the house thanks to a recent autumn walk. The numbered instructions were clear, concise and easy to follow. There were a few photos of the craft in action to help us along the way too.
Within moments Adam had created his first Pinecone Owl Ornament and wanted to create another one. I obviously couldn’t resist having a go too. In no time at all we have created nineteen pinecone owls! I love how you cannot tell the difference between mine and Adam’s pinecone owls.
I love the convenience of the 30 Christmas Ornaments book. All 30 activity ideas are collated in one place and it covers a wide age range. Most of the crafts use every day craft items and are inexpensive.
The book isn’t just suitable for home use either. As each project is shared on one page, it would be great to use as a printable worksheet within the classroom. As a teacher I know how difficult it can be finding easy to complete craft activities for little ones.
