Norman The Slug Who Saved Christmas Ornament

December 2, 2015 by Emma Gadsby 20 Comments

On Day 2 of our Book-A-Day Snowman Advent Calendar we opened up the book “Norman The Slug Who Saved Christmas” by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet. It was the first time Adam had seen the book and he instantly fell in love with Norman The Slug!

Norman the Slug is excited when a sack of presents lands by his stocking. However, he discovers the presents are not for him. The book follows Norman on his quest to return the presents back to their rightful owners.

At the end of the story Norman The Slug hides from the family by becoming a bauble on their Christmas Tree. This gave us an idea. We could create our own Norman The Slug Who Saved Christmas Ornament.

Norman The Slug who saved Christmas craft

I spotted a gorgeous multicoloured sequin bauble from PoundLand which I thought would look wonderful on our Christmas Tree. Next we needed to create Norman The Slug.

I used a strip of gold glitter sticky back foam and made a loop in it so that it stuck to itself. The loop became Normans head. I added two googly eyes and drew a smile onto Norman’s face. Next Norman needed a Christmas hat. I cut out a Christmas hat from red sticky back foam and peeled away the backing so that it could stick to the gold glitter. To complete the Christmas hat I added a glitter pom pom.

Finally I stuck the sequin bauble onto the back of Norman. The bauble already had a piece of thread attached so that Norman can be hung from our Christmas tree.

Our Norman The Slug Who Saved Christmas Ornament only took a few moments to make but has already been thoroughly enjoyed by Adam. He has taken Norman for a walk around the house and we have read the story to him several times. I wonder what adventures Norman will have next!
