I had seen several styles of masking tape roads on Google and thought our living room would be perfect for it. Adam already pushes cars along the side of the couch so knew he would love it too. Clearing the floor of other toys was probably the hardest part of the activity!
Once Adam had gone to bed I set to work on it.
The road didn’t take as long as I had thought and the time consuming part was making the white lines down the middle of the road.
The tape was quick to stick down and with a bit of manipulating it made a roundabout too.
Adam absolutely loved this activity from the moment he saw it. He immediately started pushing the cars along the road until every piece of transport we own was involved – and we own a lot of cars! He played with it non stop – to the point he refused a day time nap. We added all his garages, farms and Happy Land buildings to the road so we had our own little city.
The advantage was that it kept him occupied all day and distracted him from having his flu jab. The disadvantage was that you can’t hide this activity when it’s tea time which resulted in a melt down! We even had to take a car with us on our walk on Gorleston beach.
UPDATE: The road lasted a week and most of it remained intact. It was easy to peel off the carpet and didn’t leave any marks. The couch was a little harder. On parts where we hadn’t sat the tape didn’t leave any residue. However, the middle seat was harder to remove. The glue stayed on the couch but I wiped it with nail varnish remover and it eventually came off.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Our Masking Tape Car Track was published in Mr Tumbles magazine! See us in August 2014’s edition.
