I am huge fan of Twinkl, both as a teacher and now as a parent; I enjoy using their resources with Adam. To date we have had many play adventures using Twinkl. We were therefore interested to hear about their latest creation – Enkl.
Enkl is Twinkl’s new home decor crafting range. It is designed for parents and children to work together on projects. However, the results have more of a grown up feel about them. They use more neutral and retro colours rather than the bright ones normally associated with Twinkl. The designs are also intricate which lend themselves for collaborative home decor projects or gifts.
We opted to try out the Enkl Little Pony Peg Animals. The resource was quick to download as a pdf. Enkl recommended that you print the peg animals onto 250gsm or heavier card to achieve the best result. Unfortunately we only had printer paper to hand but it didn’t affect our craft.
The pdf contains four pages with three Little Pony Peg Animals on each page. One pony on each page had wings. Cutting out the animals was straight forward. There weren’t many fiddly pieces.
Next I had to fold the animals. The instructions recommend you to score the lines using a craft knife or empty ball point pen. I just used my finger nails and achieved a good enough result on the paper. The animals were straightforward to fold.
Finally, I got Adam to add two wooden pegs to each pony. This meant the animals were able to stand up independently.
We could have left our creations as they were but I wanted to create a simple play scene for Adam to explore. I used Twinkl’s Rainbow Display Borders and cut out three rainbows. I used blu tack to attach the rainbows to our light blue table. Finally, I added cotton wool balls to represent the clouds.
Not bad considering our Little Pony play scene was only made from paper and pegs.
Other resources in the Enkl printable range includes a Calendar Block House, origami birds, woodland animal desk tidies and vintage car paper models to name but a few.
