We continue to be inspired by Messy Little Monster’s recent Painting Challenge. We have been on the look out for more ways to focus and enjoy the painting process rather than the finished product. So for our Tuff Spot A-Z Challenge we have created a K is for Kitchen Paper Painting Tuff Spot.

Adam currently loves playing with his Jumbo Eyedroppers so we decided to use these instead of paint brushes. I covered the Tuff Spot Tray with supermarket economy Kitchen Paper. I added four layers in total and didn’t use sellotape. In a paint pallet I mixed one part paint to three parts water and mixed the contents. I placed the paint pallet in the middle of the Tuff Spot along with the Jumbo Eyedroppers and a Twisty Dropper from our Helping Hands Fine Motor Tool Set.
Adam soon grasped the concept of squeezing the paint into the Jumbo Eyedroppers. I was surprised he didn’t try to squirt me with the contents as that is the game he usually plays with Daddy when the eyedroppers are out. His instant reaction was “wow” and preferred to add the different colours on top of each other.
Adam loved the Twisty Dropper. It looks fantastic as the paint moves up the dropper. I have to admit I played around with it for some time!
The paint colours against the white kitchen paper were amazing. If Adam squirted too much paint/water I simply added a piece of kitchen paper on top and we watched the colours absorb into the paper.
Once Adam couldn’t get any more paint in the Jumbo Eyedroppers he took to pouring the remaining paint onto the Tuff Spot.
I loved the independence this activity gave to Adam. He had free rein of the colours and had a big space in which to work on. Adam was wearing old clothes and the paint did splash back onto him. Although no paint went onto the carpet I would recommend doing this activity outside. However, clearing away was simple. I just scooped up the kitchen paper and used any dry patches to wipe the Tuff Spot. Tidying up just took one minute!
* Kitchen paper – we used supermarket economy brand
