As June 29th is International Mud Day we had to celebrate with our own International Mud Day Tuff Spot activity.

It doesn’t seem five minutes ago we celebrated last year by creating Adam’s Mud Kitchen. One year on and it is still going strong. It now even has a microwave. Today’s Tuff Spot activity was simply an extension to Adam’s Mud Kitchen – a different way to use the same resources.
I filled our blue Tuff Spot with soil from the garden, a variety of plastic containers, several tools from the Mud Kitchen, scoops, ice cream mold and a cookie tray. It is warm here at the moment and I knew the mud would dry up quickly. I wanted a way for Adam to have independent access to the water so used our water container from PoundLand.
Despite being reluctant about messy play Adam got stuck into the International Mud Day Tuff Spot straight away. He spent ages scooping the mud from the Tuff Spot into the cookie tray, emptying it and repeating the activity.
After a while he realised the water container was there and filled up a plastic bowl with water. He transferred the water one scoop at a time into the cookie tray and mixed it in with the mud.
I love watching Adam’s concentration on simple activities like this. He becomes so engrossed in the task and makes a change from the little boy that is normally running around everywhere!
