This is the final post about Adam’s birthday farmyard theme party food covering the chicks, sheep and ducks. You can read previous posts about our #MorrisonsMum shopping experience, the outdoor party games we played, the pig themed food and the sweet treats.
Hard boiled egg Chicks
Having seen a photograph of hardboiled egg chicks around Facebook I managed to track down instructions at Victoria Twead.
Nana altered the instructions and used coriander seeds for their eyes. She made a hole with a cocktail stick and pushed the coriander seed carefully in. The chicks were placed on top of spinach and radishes.
Marshmallow sheep
During the Morrisons shop we thought of using milk chocolate teacakes and marshmallows to create sheep.
Nana used a teacake as the sheeps body and covered it in vanilla icing. She added small white mashmallows around the body. A liqorice disk was used for the sheeps head and liquorice for the feet. Cress was added to the tray to represent grass.
Despite loving sweet things even I had to admit defeat and couldn’t finish it all. Uncle Ben attempted a whole one but felt sick afterwards
Duck pond
With Adams love of ducks (link to duck posts) I knew we had to feature a duck pond, but what liquid could we use? We couldn’t use just tap water- that would have been too easy! The decision was made for us though when Uncle Ben put in a order for cider.
We poured cider into a decorative glass bowl, placed it onto a mirror and added a variety of toy ducks. It appeared as if the ducks had drunk the cider though as they wouldn’t float!
How did Adam react to his farmyard theme party?
We had expected Adam not to take any notice of the party food. He isn’t a huge fan of food and is particular about what he eats. However, his reaction to the farmyard party theme food was priceless. He loved it!
Several times during the day he asked to go to the table and look at the food.
Adam would spent time looking at one item and then excitedly point at something else. He signed ‘cow’ several times!
Adam had a wonderful second birthday party with his family.
Would we do it again? Although it was fun designing and creating the farmyard items it was a lot of effort. I’d never say never but I think we will return to our easy family birthday BBQ’s in the future!
