Elf Suitcase Small World

November 26, 2015 by Emma Edwards 8 Comments

I have always wanted to make Adam a small world within a suitcase. He recently fell in love with two Christmas elves so I decided to create them an Elf Suitcase Small World.

Elf Suitcase Small World

I purchased a perfect oblong suitcase from Tiger Stores UK. It is large enough to house Mr and Mrs Elf but small enough for Adam to carry around.

Mr and Mrs Elf suitcase

Every Elf home needs a bed and we created ours using two large matchstick boxes. Each elf had a small pillow which were made by wrapping felt around a small matchstick box. The blankets were also made from coloured felt.

Adam spotted our star stickers and wanted to stick them onto Mrs Elf’s bed. You can tell Adam has recently had glow in the dark stickers in his bedroom. He was adamant the elves needed stars on their bedroom wall, along with a clock!

DIY Elf beds

With Mr and Mrs Elf tucked into bed, it was time to turn our attention to their garden. It took several attempts to make the washing line. I struggled to find the resources to make the washing line the correct height or stand up. Finally I decided to thread red and green Christmas string through a cut paper straw.

I used white tack to make the paper straw stand up and wrapped green felt around the base. I then added miniature pegs that were left over from our Peg Butterfly.

Miniature fire for elves

We needed somewhere for the Elves to cook their meals. I made a camp fire using three matchsticks and wrapped a loom band around the top. The flames were created using orange felt. I used small amounts of white tack to secure the polystyrene mushrooms in place around the fire.

Finally we made a pond so the Elves could catch their evening meal. I attached a circle of blue felt to the suitcase along with three small fish created from the left over yellow straw. We placed eleven green glass pebbles around the pond, each attached with white tack.

As all of the items in the garden are attached to the suitcase it means that the lid can close and all of the items remain in place. Our Elf Suitcase Small World can be used at a moments notice. A great busy bag that can be used both in and out of the house. I wonder what adventures we will have with our Elf Suitcase Small World!

Welcome!

Emma and Adam

During a difficult pregnancy suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) Emma vowed to make every day an adventure once she had recovered. Adventures of Adam is the outcome of completing a 100 day play challenge with Adam as part of that promise. Emma has a section dedicated to HG friendly play activities so that Mums can still be part of their children’s play whilst they are ill.
