Edible Spring Flowers

January 27, 2015 by Emma Edwards Leave a Comment

Day 27 of our 31 Day Sensory Play Challenge is edible play. In the past we have had lots of edible play adventures – from our edible dinosaur sensory bin, jelly worms, using cereals and messy play with pasta. Today was an opportunity to use our Toy Story Edible Ink Colouring Pens and Green Sugar Sand. We created edible spring flowers.

Adventures of Adam Edible ink colouring pens

Adam and I made a batch of dairy free biscuits and used a flower play dough cutter to make spring flowers. Whilst the biscuits were cooking we used Dr. Oetker Ready To Roll Icing to create more spring flowers. These were attached to the cooked biscuits with icing sugar and would be used as our canvas to draw on.

On the base of a green box I placed a strip of ready to roll icing to represent grass. Once our biscuits had cooled I gave Adam the edible ink colouring pens. Unfortunately the pens didn’t produce the results I had hoped. The only way to get the ink to appear was to stab the pens into the icing. Luckily this was the method Adam decided to use anyway.

Adam decided that sprinkling the green sugar sand onto the icing sugar didn’t look much fun. Instead he wanted to tip a lid full over the ‘grass’. Sugar sand went everywhere!  Our spring flower edible art work may not be a masterpiece but it did taste yummy.

Welcome!

Emma and Adam

During a difficult pregnancy suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) Emma vowed to make every day an adventure once she had recovered. Adventures of Adam is the outcome of completing a 100 day play challenge with Adam as part of that promise. Emma has a section dedicated to HG friendly play activities so that Mums can still be part of their children’s play whilst they are ill.
