Recently Adam has developed a love for colouring. He no longer fills a page, making huge circles with one colour, but can spend ages colouring in small sections. For a little boy who loves to be on the go this is a huge step for him. Adam has great pencil control thanks to the numerous fine motor skill activities we have completed over the past two years. For some time I have been admiring the unique products from EatSleepDoodle. With Adam’s new found love of colouring I decided to test out their sleeping range in the form of the Colour and Learn World Map Pillowcase.
EatSleepDoodle have created a range of textile gifts. They come with wash-out fabric pens, so your child can doodle, write and draw on the fits. After their masterpiece is finished then you simply wash the item and repeat. Every EatSleepDoodle product can go straight into the machine on a warm wash. The doodle ink washes out completely. Children can colour in their items in different ways time and time again.
Adam and I share a love for maps. I am pleased to say the Colour and Learn World Map Pillowcase did not disappoint. It was jam packed with detail. I had expected only continents to be shown, but individual country borders were drawn onto the pillowcase. The beautiful hand-drawn illustration was filled with animals, important landmarks, the seven wonders of the modern world, world records and fun facts. Adam and I spent ages just looking at the detailed map.
Inside the pack there were ten colourful wash out fabric pens. Each pen is double ended – one fine tip and one thicker end. I laid out the pillowcase on a table and let Adam colour away.
I do confess, I had thought the pillowcase would keep Adam entertained for a few minutes at best. I had expected him to come back to the pillowcase throughout the day with a little encouragement. However, Adam stayed glued to the activity for three hours – yes you read that correctly three hours! My son, the over active boy, sat for three hours colouring in. I sat with him (and couldn’t resist colouring in myself too) and we spent three hours talking, colouring and exploring the world map.
The pens were easy to use and produced bright colours. Unfortunately there wasn’t a brown in the pack so the majority of our animals ended up grey. I preferred using the thick end of the pens whilst Adam liked the thinner end. Towards the end of our three hour marathon colouring in session the light blue pen did begin to run out.
It was suprising how many more items we discovered on the map during our colouring in session. I thought we had looked at it carefully enough at the beginning, but after 2 hours of colouring in Adam was still discovering new features.
Adam was so proud of his world map masterpiece. Everyone who came to our door for the next week got to see Adam showcase his work. I do admit because Adam loved the activity so much I can’t bring myself to wash out the pillowcase. However, I know in the not too distant future Adam will want to do the activity again and we shall have that opportunity. For now, Adam’s EatSleepDoodle world map pillowcase is now proudly displayed on his bed.
EatSleepDoodle have a range of eating, sleeping and living products suitable for any gift or occasion. After seeing how much Adam benefited and enjoyed his pillowcase I can’t wait to try out more of their range.
