Cotton Wool Fun – Day 37 Toddler Play Challenge

December 7, 2013 by Emma Gadsby Leave a Comment

The idea had been that Adam would attempt to throw the cotton wool balls into the muffin tin from a distance.

However Adam had his own idea and chose to put one cotton wool ball into each section of the muffin tin, thereby practising his fine motor skills.

Each time he filled up the muffin tin he emptied it and started again.

This is where I made a mistake. He was occupied so I went and put a load in the washing machine. 37 days into the play challenge I gave in to temptation and went to do a job. As soon as Adam heard the washing machine that was it. He was straight into the garden room watching the machine go round! Note to self – resist temptation in the future!

Adam was 19 months old.

UPDATE:

As part of our 30 Day Simple Play challenge we are visiting some previous play activities. As today was Bathroom play we tried out Cotton Wool Fun again. This time I added a few fine motor skill tools such as our Handy Scooper. I demonstrated how Adam could use the Handy Scooper to pick up just one cotton wool ball. Adam thought it was hilarious when he used the Handy Scooper to pick up several balls at once. He couldn’t stop laughing as he did the same with the Twisty Dropper and the wooden toast tong!
