Cosy Direct Tuff Spot Stand Review

March 5, 2015 by Emma Gadsby 5 Comments

NB: Updated as Cosy Direct now have an amazing website so ordering your Tuff Spot Stand (and all the other fantastic resources they offer) is simple.

Over the past few months we have had several Tuff Spot adventures. From shaving foam to clean mud, from using Smash to cornflakes we have loved our Tuff Spot. However, Adam was at times reluctant to sit inside the Tuff Spot and would spend some of  the activity on my lap. He was therefore restricted in the things he could explore and didn’t experience all the Tuff Spot had to offer. Something was missing and I couldn’t decide what it was.

In the past I have had a Tuff Spot stand in my classroom but only considered them useful when there were several children wanting to play around the Tuff Spot at the same time. It was also a way of restricting the mess from going all over the children as they were not sitting inside the Tuff Spot. I was also discouraged by the price. In excess of £70 is a big investment for a child’s play activity.

I was over the moon when Cosy Direct asked us to review their Tuff Spot Stand. Within a few minutes of setting it up I realised I had finally found the thing that was missing from our Tuff Spot play.

Cosy

Cosy Direct claims to have the best value Tuff Spot Stand on the market priced at £34.99*. I haven’t found one to be within that price range.

The Tuff Spot Stand comes in twelve pieces. It is incredibly easy to put together. You simply slot the pieces together. Our Tuff Spot from B&Q fitted perfectly on top.

Adventures of Adam Tuff Spot Stand how to put together

No tools are required and it can be assembled in less than 1 minute. Watch Nana (with a little help from Adam) putting the Tuff Spot Stand together for the first time:

The Cosy Direct Tuff Spot Stand can be adjusted to three heights with no extra parts required. The height can me adjusted to either 45cm, 55cm or 65cm tall.

Adventures of Adam

To be honest I thought the ability to adjust the height on the stand was so that the Tuff Spot could get taller as the child grew. How wrong I was! Different Tuff Spot activities require the Tuff Spot to be at different heights. For example during our Glow in the Dark Spaghetti  activity it was easier for Adam to reach into the middle to get the spaghetti when the Tuff Spot was set at the lowest height. On the other hand, our Musical Tuff Spot Stand worked best when the stand was at its tallest setting. Adjusting the Tuff Spot Stand to the tallest height also makes a fantastic den!

The metal coated Tuff Spot Stand can be used both inside and out, although it is not recommended that you leave the stand outside over night or in the rain.

We have had our Tuff Spot Stand in the living room for just over a week. In that short time Adam has used our Tuff Spot more than he has done in the past 16 months. He voluntarily takes activities to it and now accesses the full space within the Tuff Spot Tray. He readily comes to messy play activities and can often be found underneath the stand reading a book. I hadn’t realised the Tuff Spot Stand would make such a difference to Adam’s play.

Wow is that cool! We are “space-challenged” and I love how nicely that collapses and adjusts! What a neat idea!
