Chalkola: Decorate and Redecorate A Christmas Tree Plate

December 14, 2016 by Emma Gadsby 2 Comments

We have fallen in love with Chalkola pens. These are chalk marker pens that write on any non porous surface. You can even wipe away the markings easily with just a wet cloth. So far we have used the pens to create a Polar Express Train Track Letter Puzzle. However, our first experiment with the Chalkola Pens was to Decorate and Redecorate A Christmas Tree Plate.

This craft was so simple to set up and kept Adam occupied for ages. I gave Adam his own Christmas Tree shaped plate which was made from foil covered plastic. With the Chalkola pens he was able to draw his own decorations on to the Christmas tree. When he had finished and wanted to start again Adam simply used a wet cloth to wipe away the markings. He could then redecorate his Christmas tree plate again and again.

We were sent two packets of Chalkola pens: a pack of eight Earth Colours and a pack of ten Neon Colour Markers. For this activity the Neon colours worked best.

Adam enjoyed getting the pens to work just as much as he did using them. He loved shaking the pens and pressing them up and down on a scrap piece of cardboard to get the ink flowing.

He then got creative with decorating his Christmas tree plate. The liquid chalk marker pens were the ideal size for Adam to use and the liquid chalk dried straight away. It didn’t leave any dusty chalk residue.

The next day Adam continued to use the Chalkola pens on the plate. He got to add more baubles, lights and tinsel to the plate.

After a while he wanted to redecorate his Christmas tree. With a wet cloth he was able to erase the decorations easily.

Adam was then able to redecorate his Christmas tree plate again and again with the Chalkola pens.

The Chalkola pens were fantastic to use and we have lots of future craft activities planned with them!
