I can’t believe this is our last post as part of the Five Senses Play Challenge. What an incredible five weeks it has been. We complete the challenge with a super quick set up activity for the sense of sight – an alphabet spy sensory tuff spot.
The activity took literally seconds to set up. I placed alphabet cards face up on the blue Tuff Spot (affiliate link) and poured our left over neon rice on top. If you do not have coloured rice left over from a previous activity then you could simply use a bag of rice.
We played several different alphabet recognition games with our alphabet spy tuff spot.
I poured rice over each letter so Adam could only see the picture. I asked him to locate a picture and tell me what the object began with ie “what does fish begin with?”
This time I pored rice over both the picture and the letter. Adam had to use his fingers to move the rice away from either the letter or the picture and tell me what he found.
I showed Adam a letter and he had to locate the matching card hidden under the rice. Once he had found the card he placed it on the floor.
Adam and I experimented with mark making in the neon rice. Our new blue tuff spot was perfect for this as you could see the letters clearly.
We played with our alphabet spy tuff spot for over an hour. Not bad for a super quick set up activity and a great way to end our Five Senses Play Challenge.
