Day by day our penguins keep arriving. If you are new to our blog you may not have heard about our #365Penguin adventure. Just like in the story “365 Penguins” by Jean-Luc Fromental, we are having a penguin delivered to our house everyday throughout 2016. At the end of April we are onto penguin number 120. Yes that is right – we have had 120 penguins delivered so far.
April was a special month because it saw penguin number 100 arrive on our doorstep. Along with him came a note “I’m number 100 and 100 to 1 you’ll take care of me 100 percent!”
Over the course of a few days we had special penguin deliveries. These included a penguin celebrating the Queens 90th Birthday on the 21st April.
An Earth Day Penguin on the 22nd April.
A St Georges Day Penguin on the 23rd April
and the penguin which arrived on April 25th was here to celebrate World Penguin Day.
Our penguins are easy to manage. However, the penguins in the story have many problems.
Problem 1) Feeding the penguins: In the book they work out that each penguin eats 2.5 pounds of fish per day. That is $750 per day! As I am allergic to fish that would have raised a whole new issue.
Problem 2) Taking care of the penguins: Each day Adam places the new penguin on top of the last one and he collects them in his dolls house. However, in the story the penguins get everywhere!
“Penguins, penguins everywhere,
Black and white and in my hair.
Two or three would be quite nice,
But hundreds more, let’s think twice!
Bathroom, bedroom, closet, kitchen –
I’ve had enough, it’s time to ditch ’em!”
Problem 3) Housing the penguins. The family decide that penguins are like eggs and how do you arrange eggs? In boxes of a dozen. So we had a go. We managed to store our 120 penguins into 12 boxes with zero left over.
If you want to see how we make our penguins be sure to check out our Penguin tutorial. They take no time at all to make and only require a few resources.
During May our penguins will help Adam celebrate his 4th birthday, come on holiday with us to Cromer to celebrate my birthday, look after Adam whilst I am away at the Pregnancy Sickness Support Charity Conference, and hopefully attend Adams birthday party. Look out for a special visitor coming in May – a special penguin we are very excited about meeting. What a wonderful month ahead!
