November 2015 is a very important month for Adventures of Adam. It is the 2 year anniversary of our first ever play challenge. Two years ago Adam and I ventured into our 30 Day Play Challenge. This led on to our 100 Day Play Challenge which finally resulted in our blog. Starting that play challenge changed our outlook on play for life.
Wind the clocks back to October 2013 and I was struggling as a Mum. It had rained non-stop for several days and Adam and I were both extremely bored. We had a living room filled with plastic toys yet they didn’t sustain Adam’s attention for more than a few minutes. Despite being a Primary School teacher I had no idea how to play with an 18 month old. The idea of the 30 Day Play Challenge was simple – set aside 15 minutes each day for uninterrupted play. Our play activities were designed to be uncomplicated and easy to set up, mainly using objects found around the home.
Since then we have completed several other play challenges. Our 31 Day Sensory Play Challenge saw us playing with a different sensory medium each day. Our Five Senses Play Challenge found us exploring the world through our five senses and during our Tuff Spot A-Z Challenge we created a different Tuff Spot activity for each letter of the alphabet.
To celebrate the 2 year anniversary of our first play challenge we are hosting the 30 Day Simple Play At Home challenge and would love you to take part.
We are taking play back to basics and focusing on simple play ideas around the house. We will cover 7 different locations around the home – one for each day of the week.
The simple play activity can either take place in the suggested room or use resources from that room. For example on Sunday your play could take place in the kitchen or you could play with kitchen items in another room. The idea is that the activity doesn’t take long to prepare and uses resources found around the home. The simpler the play idea the better. The main focus is on playing with your child.
How To Take Part in the 30 Day Simple Play At Home Challenge
You can complete the full 30 days of the Simple Play At Home Challenge or pop in and out of it – it is completely up to you. Simply set aside 15 minutes each day throughout November where you and your child will not be interrupted during your simple play activity.
At the end of the month we will add these photographs (with your permission) on the Adventures of Adam blog.
